Dennis A. Thompson

On obtaining a Private Pilot Licence in 1965, Dennis commenced a career in aviation spanning over 36 years.  Engaging in part-time aircraft sales in 1966, a full-time aircraft sales and brokerage operation was established at Ardmore Airport in 1968, where it remains today.

The company pioneered the importation of late model, well equipped single and multi engine aircraft for supply to the New Zealand market.  International sales, brokerage and acquisitions have featured and continue to feature in the company operation.

In 1984 Corporate Flight Services Ltd was formed to manage and operate business aircraft for corporate owners, with the first aircraft a Gulfstream Commander 1000 jet-prop for a merchant bank.  Dennis remains managing director of both companies.

He headed up the Aviation Task Force in 1988-89, opposing the introduction of crippling airways charges proposed on general aviation by the then newly formed Airways Corporation of New Zealand.  He was chairman of the Air Transport Division of the Aviation Industry Association of NZ Inc., becoming Vice President in 1988.  Dennis became President of the Aviation Industry Association in 1989, leading it for a turbulent four years with considerable success and benefit for the aviation industry as a whole and general aviation in particular.  He was appointed to the Minister of Transport's consultative committee on cost recovery for the newly established stand alone Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, formed arguably at the insistence of the Aviation Industry Association by the new National Government.

Dennis was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1995 by the Minister of Justice.

He retains an active pilot licence and is qualified on most general aviation single and multi engine aircraft types.  Buyers and sellers have found his wide knowledge of aircraft types andthe world market to be of immense benefit to them.
